How good is Black?

I just watched Black last weekend. I think it’s a great movie. I, for one, really fell in love with the movie and the director. Sanjay Leela Bhansali has done phenomenal work in the movie. It’s some work of creativity. In fact, I would be really surprised if it doesn’t end up at the Oscars and also not coming out a winner.

The movie does start as being very dramatic in the beginning. Rani's childhood specially has been overdone, I think, in terms of the emotions portrayed by the child actress. I don’t want to blame the girl, I guess, she was just doing what she was asked to. Amitabh's role of a teacher could have been toned down a bit too. His character is someone who's shown as a expert teacher for the blind and who really gets involved in his students. He's also seen as complaining about the lack of recognition for his work. So may be that’s where he’s coming from. Rani as usual is awesome in the movie. She will end up being one of the most versatile actresses of all time. Pretty much in the Madhuri league. The movie definitely gets better with time. But I think overall, its Bhansali's movie all the way. His sense of creativity, timing is just amazing.

He, obviously, had a great script to back it up. But how many times have we seen in Bollywood, a good script put to cleaners by the director. So, all the credit should go to the director, here. There are other things where you can pick on the movie. Like, Rani's Charlie Chaplin walk. Well I guess, if you ever closed your eyes and walked, you would take small steps to keep your-self in check and balanced. But that could have been achieved by not imitating Chaplin's walk.

Anyway, all said and done, there's nothing to take away from the movie, the actors and most importantly the director. It’s a stupendous piece of art and something the Bollywood should definitely try to pick from.

It’s a must watch!
